Our story
About ZIWI
ZIWI was born in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, from a love of pets and a belief that when it came to their nutrition, there had to be a better way.
The problem we set out to solve
We saw too many pet food companies taking world-class New Zealand ingredients and blending them with cheap fillers to make highly processed kibble. The country produced some of the finest meat and seafood in the world, and very little of it was reaching the bowl intact.
A two-year experiment
Out of that came a straightforward idea: combine the nutrition of a raw diet with the convenience of ready-to-serve dry food. After a two-year journey of trial and error, ZIWI Peak® was born — no fillers, no artificial binders.
We have been refining it since 2002.
What we believe
Cats and dogs are carnivores
They live healthier lives on a carnivorous diet. That is why our recipes are packed with raw meat, organs and seafood, in ratios close to what they would choose for themselves in the wild.
Kaitiakitanga
A concept rooted in New Zealand Māori culture. It means embodying the role of guardian — caring for people, and protecting the land, the sea and its creatures for the generations that follow. It shapes how we source every ingredient.
Peak nutrition is the foundation of a stronger bond
The bond between a pet and their guardian is worth nurturing. Strengthening it through good food, for a happier and healthier life together, is the reason ZIWI was founded.
